TERMS OF USE

Use the tool.
Respect the work.

The short version: submit only public YouTube material you may lawfully process, respect the rights in the source material, and do not bypass the service’s limits. Captions and the service can be incomplete or unavailable, and an unlisted job link is not a private vault.

1. Agreement and eligibility

These Terms of Use (“Terms”) are an agreement between you and the operator of ScriptHaul (“ScriptHaul,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). They govern your access to scripthaul.com and its transcript, job, download, and related features (the “Service”). By accessing or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and acknowledge the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. If you have not reached the age at which you can enter a binding contract where you live, a parent or legal guardian must review and agree to these Terms for you. If you use the Service for an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization.

2. What the Service does

ScriptHaul retrieves and formats available caption tracks associated with publicly accessible YouTube videos, playlists, and channels. It does not provide video or audio downloads, sign in to YouTube for you, access private or members-only material, or bypass access controls. Caption tracks may be created by users, generated automatically, or translated.

ScriptHaul is independent and is not sponsored, endorsed, or operated by YouTube or Google. Public availability of a video or caption track does not mean that YouTube or a rights holder has authorized every possible copy or downstream use.

The Service is free and does not offer user accounts or paid subscriptions as of the effective date. We may later add clearly disclosed paid features, sponsorships, or advertising. We will present any additional payment terms before charging you and will update the Privacy Policy before materially changing how personal information is used.

3. Submitted requests and source material

When you submit a public YouTube URL and transcript preferences, you instruct us to resolve the source, retrieve and process available public metadata and caption data, cache that data, and create the files or pages you request. This operational instruction does not transfer ownership of the source material and does not give you a new license to use it.

Rights in source videos, audio, captions, spoken material, names, and other third-party content remain with their respective owners. ScriptHaul claims no ownership of source material or generated transcript files. You are responsible for determining whether your copying, analysis, quotation, publication, training, redistribution, commercial use, or other use is permitted, including whether you need permission, consent, attribution, or another legal basis.

4. Your responsibilities

You represent that your use of the Service and its output will comply with applicable law, these Terms, and any third-party terms that apply to you, including the YouTube Terms of Service. Review important output against the original source. Do not rely on a generated transcript as a verified record for legal, medical, safety-critical, academic, accessibility, or other purposes that require exact wording.

5. Prohibited uses

You may not use or attempt to use the Service to:

6. Job links, caching, and your copies

Job and transcript pages are excluded from search indexing and use hard-to-guess addresses, but they are not protected by an account or password. Anyone who has a job URL may be able to see its submitted source, progress, results, and transcript links. Do not submit or share a job URL if that would create a confidentiality problem.

We may cache public caption data for an indefinite period so later requests can avoid another upstream fetch. We do not promise to retain any particular job, page, file, or cache entry, and we may remove or disable material at any time. Keep your own copy of anything you need.

7. Limits, changes, and availability

We may enforce job, request, transcript-read, cache-miss, traffic, and operating-budget limits; reject automated abuse; pause or retry fetches; correct errors; and change limits or features to operate and protect the Service. We may suspend or discontinue some or all of the Service at any time, with notice where reasonably practical.

YouTube and other upstream services may change or remove caption access without notice. Jobs may be delayed, incomplete, inaccurate, or unavailable. A queued or partially completed job does not guarantee that a transcript will be produced.

8. Third-party services and links

The Service depends on third parties, including YouTube, Google, Cloudflare, hosting providers, and network providers. We do not control or endorse their services and are not responsible for their availability, content, accuracy, security, policies, or changes. Third-party links are provided for convenience, and your use of a third-party service is governed by its own terms and privacy practices.

9. ScriptHaul content

The ScriptHaul name, branding, site design, and original site copy are owned by or licensed to the operator. Subject to these Terms, we give you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable permission to access and use the Service for lawful purposes. Any software made available under a separate open-source license remains governed by that license. No other rights are granted.

10. Rights complaints

If cached material infringes your rights or should not be processed, follow the DMCA and takedown process. We may remove or disable access to material, block future processing, request clarification, or take other reasonable action. We may restrict repeat or serious misuse of the Service.

11. Suspension and termination

These Terms apply while you use the Service. You may stop using it at any time. We may suspend access, refuse requests, remove cached material, or terminate jobs when reasonably necessary for security, legal compliance, rights protection, enforcement of these Terms, or continued operation. Sections that by their nature should continue—including ownership, source-material responsibility, disclaimers, liability limits, indemnity, and dispute provisions—survive termination.

12. Disclaimers

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Service and all output are provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory. We do not warrant uninterrupted operation, availability, completeness, accuracy, non-infringement, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or that output is suitable for your intended use. We do not verify the facts, ownership, permissions, or legal usability of source material or captions.

13. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, ScriptHaul and its operator will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages; lost profits, revenue, data, goodwill, or opportunities; or losses caused by generated files, missing or inaccurate captions, third-party services, unauthorized sharing of a job URL, or interruption of the Service.

Except for liability that applicable law does not allow us to exclude or limit, our total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to the Service or these Terms will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us for the Service during the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim or (b) US$100. Nothing in these Terms limits non-waivable consumer rights or liability for fraud, willful misconduct, or any other liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

14. Indemnity

To the extent permitted by law, you agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless ScriptHaul and its operator from third-party claims, damages, liabilities, and reasonable legal costs arising from your violation of these Terms, your misuse of the Service or its output, or your infringement of another person’s copyright, privacy, publicity, or other rights. We may control the defense of a covered claim, and you agree to provide reasonable cooperation. This section does not require a consumer to indemnify us for our own unlawful conduct.

15. Applicable law and disputes

These Terms do not waive any right that applicable law does not allow you to waive. Before filing a claim, you and ScriptHaul agree to make a good-faith effort to resolve it informally for 30 days after written notice, unless urgent relief is reasonably necessary. An unresolved claim may be brought in a court that has jurisdiction under applicable law. These Terms do not require arbitration and do not include a class-action waiver.

16. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms to reflect changes to the Service, law, security, or business practices. The revised version will be posted here with a new effective date, and we will provide a prominent notice for material changes where reasonably practical. Changes apply prospectively from their effective date. Continued use after that date means you accept the revised Terms.

17. General terms

These Terms and the policies they expressly reference are the entire agreement about the Service and replace prior understandings on the same subject. If a provision is unenforceable, it will be limited only as much as necessary and the rest will remain in effect. A delay in enforcement is not a waiver. We may assign these Terms in connection with a reorganization, transfer, or sale of the Service; you may not assign them without our written consent. We are not responsible for delay or failure caused by events beyond our reasonable control. Headings are for convenience only.
